This pair of paintings relflects the artist's wry attempt to make two identical pictures, in order to test the boundaries of painting and to call into question the spontaneity said to characterize Abstract Expressionism. Although comprised of identical collage elements and similiar strokes of paint, the two Factums are monetheless subtly distinct from one another and announce the deliberate choices involved in the artist's creative process. |
